Artist's Comments

It doesn't look like much of an update but I've actually spent HOURS fiddling with different stuff. Most of the additions I made actually looked rubbish, so they weren't allowed to stay.

First off, it's now rendered in VRay style (and it looks all the better for it too). I gave it a few new materials for the priviledge.

The rest are just detail tweaks - most notably the main body is now MeshSmoothed (although an ill-planned mesh in the first place means there are a few hidden glitches here and there).

I think the next render will just bulk up the detail on the body - adding armour plating and the such. It's a toss-up between UV Mapping it or moddeling the details by hand - but already the render time is up to 20mins, and adding much more physical detail isn't going to help.

Still - I HATE UV Mapping. So tedious...

We'll see....

Lookin' sexy! You should show some more angles. I'm curious what the back looks like and the top. ;)

The back eh?....

We don't talk about The Back right now... He he... *looks around nervously*

Thanks very much! It's an honour to get good comments from talented goys like your good self!

Nice renderer indeed, but dont be scared of 20 minutes rendertime :) The more smaller details you add the better it looks overall (and the more you will hate uvw mapping it hehe) :)

Though if you are good with procedual shaders you can save yourself 99% of the uvw mapping ^^ (thats a lazy modeller talking here ^^)

I hope you finish it :)

Come on, it's true! First render is a WIP squared, just a boxey with a bunch of details. Second adds details. Third adds details, improves old ones and renders it using Vray (whatever it is, my guess is it's some kind of photon-mapping GI/AO renderer). It has to be getting better every iteration, there's no other way ^^
